Corte della Maesta, Italy ~ Hotel Crush

I first traveled to Italy while I was still in High School - I remember being completely swept away by the culture, the wine (yea, my parents were liberal like that) and most of all, exploring it's walled cities and charming hill top towns. So it is no surprise that I've fallen head over hills, for Corte della Maesta - perched  on a mountain peak between Orvieto and Viterbo, Corte della Maestà is "an antique residence (aka small hotel) found in the suggestive valle di Civita di Bagnoregio, the silhouette of which rises up like some remote outpost accessible thanks only to a footbridge."... Hello, Heart Strings!

The newly renovated residence was formerly a Bishop's house, and has only five rooms, all decorated with antique pieces and vintage art. The design is so perfect - I'd figure I'd let the images speak for themselves. Lets explore this Italian gem room by room...Starting with my favorite room in the house...the Kitchen

The Abbess  ~ This room’s four-poster bed once belonged to the Abbess of a monastery (hence the room’s name) and is meant as a tribute to Stendhal’s ‘The Abbess Of Castro’.

The Intruder  ~  Looking out across the valley, one can glimpse the house where the Argentine poet and writer Rodolfo Wilcock lived and died. He was a great friend of Jorge Luis Borges, to whose work the room is dedicated.

The Writer  ~The wallpaper in the apartment’s study is a reproduction of that covering the walls of Virginia Woolf’s London home. It has its own private entrance from the garden, up stone stairs with Roman columns to a terrace covered by a pergola of roses.

Virgin America takes off to Portland Oregon!

I'm a loyal Virgin America traveler - not only because my sister works there - but because I'm fully in love with every aspect of the airline. So when they announced today that their newest destination will be Portland, Oregon, I started searching my calendar for a free weekend to book a trip. While I'm still working on my Oregon itinerary, but I at least know where I'm planning to stay - the Ace Hotel, which I have a serious hotel crush on and wrote about (here)!
Over the past few years, Virgin America has won me over with its friendly service, its quirky inflight security video and its smaller than usual boarding passes. There is Wi-Fi access, a make your own playlist option, a seat to seat chat feature and you can browse and order meals, snacks and beverages right from your seat, which are then be delivered to you (aka. no more waiting for the cart).

Starting June 5th Virgin America will fly two daily round-trip flights from Los Angeles and one from San Francisco, and to celebrate the new route launch they are promoting one way tickets as low as $99!
Bon Voyage!

Hotel Crush ~ Indian Springs Resort and Spa ~ Napa Valley

Its a scary sign of my approaching old age - but just the other day a friend (I think) was asking me to recommend (I think) a hotel in the Napa Valley (I think), that wasn't too much money (I think) but was full of charm, class, and relaxation (I think)... No matter who originally asked me for the advice,  I think you'll all find something to love about Indian Springs in Calistoga!
One of the Valley's best kept secrets,  Indian Springs Resort and Spa is California’s oldest continuously operating pool and spa facility. Situated on 16 beautiful acres planted with olive and palm trees, roses and lavender, the property is blessed with four thermal geysers that produce an extraordinary supply of rich mineral water. You can spend your days covered in mud, playing Bocce, getting lost in a labyrinth or biking to neighboring vineyards to sip on some wine.
There is a total of 41 guest rooms at Indian Springs, including our 15 original cottages, 24 newly renovated Lodge rooms that start as low as $195 a night ... I think I feel a girls weekend coming on...

Homeawy (from Home) ~ Brisbane Bay Australia

While fall seems to be settling in here in LA, spring has sprung south of the equator - which is why today's Homeaway from Home profiles a plush (and sadly, hyper expensive) Australian get away that I'm sure I'll be dreaming of come December.
Literally called "The Pretty House", the exclusive seven-acre property sits high above Brisbane Bay in a tree top canopy, just north of Sydney. The three one-bedroom pavilions come with an in-house chef, private decks, wine cellars, a heated pool and if that wasn't enough, a 38 foot yacht to explore the sea.

What?!?!  I girl can dream can't she?

HomeAway (from home) Friday's ~ Napa Valley

I've always been fond of the color Gray... I'm guessing it has something to do with my nostalgia for foggy San Francisco summers...but no matter what your palette preference, I think you'll all agree that this week's charming two bedroom Napa Valley vacation rental provides the perfect achromatic ambiance for a relaxing weekend away...and for only $350 a night all this gray goodness could be yours....

Hotel Crush ~ Teepees in British Columbia

Located deep in the majestic Canadian Rockies, my current hotel crush has me playing my favorite Fleetwood Mac song on repeat while simultaneously putting daisy chains in my hair.
With rates as low as $42 a night for your very own teepee, the Goldenwood Lodge has what it takes to turn any stressed out SoCal native into a bonafide bohemian babe.
What? Teepees not your thing?  No problem! The Goldenwood Lodge is also home to six beautiful 1 to 3 beadroom cottages, all with custom made furniture, fully equipped kitchenettes, fire places and balconies (Not to mention endless views of the 5 neighboring national parks). Built by a Swedish couple in 1995 everything is completely sustainable and eco-friendly. Their only goal was to build a place where visitors can slow down, relax and connect with nature....and from the looks of it...they've done a really good job.  It looks even more amazing in the winter.
